Rick Lazaroff
Host of Sound Waves
Pro Musician for 30+ years and now host of "Sound Waves", a Jazz and Blues extravaganza. All those years I spent trying to get my stuff played on the radio and now I can play my stuff anytime I want. Seriously, it's a dream job. Who doesn't want to control the music when you're at a party or in the car.
Growing up in a Jazz Drummer's house (my father is the late Alex Lazaroff, who was one of Canada's finest Jazz drummers from back in the 50's and beyond), I was exposed to all the great Jazz from the late 50's and early 60's, the golden era of Jazz for me at least. I also got to meet many Canadian Jazz greats and a few Jazz giants including Chet Baker, Max Roach and Ed Thigpen to name a few. The first records I remember spinning on our old Motorola were Stan Getz, Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis.
By high school, I had become a Jazz snob. Eventually I relaxed a bit and now I listen to and appreciate both kinds of music. Jazz and Blues.
Living in a beach town and hosting a radio show. I certainly can't complain.
How about one bass player joke with a percussive spin?
"Hear about the Bass player who locked his keys in his car? It took two hours to get the Drummer out!
Bye for now, Rick Laz.
