Arrest Made in Gold Bar Scam
An Orillia man paid $1,200 for what turned out to be fake gold, a 49-year-old Barrie man is charged.
A Barrie man is facing charges in connection to a fake gold scam.
Back in December, an Orillia man saw an ad on Orilliajiji for a one-ounce Royal Canadian Mint gold bar.
The man went to a Tim Horton's in Barrie to meet with the seller and paid $1,200 for it.
Afterwards, the buyer became suspicious and had the gold bar verified which turned out to be counterfeit.
An investigation by Barrie Police led them to a Dunlop Street home on Thursday where they arrested a 49-year-old man.
He will appear in a Barrie court in February.
