The L.A. Kings are one win away from the conference final. The Kings are up 3-0 in their conference semi, after beating St. Louis 4-2. Drew Doughty had a goal and 2 assists for the Kings, who could wrap up the series at home on Sunday.

New Jersey has a 2-1 lead in its Eastern Conference semifinal, after beating Philadelphia 4-3 in overtime. Ilva Kovalchuk, who sat out Game 2 with a lower back injury, was feeling much better -- he finished with a goal and 2 assists, for the Devils.

1 NHL playoff game tonight: Nashville hosts Phoenix... the Coyotes lead the series, 2-1.


Canada begins at the world hockey championship today, against Slovakia. The world championship has produced 5 different champions in the past 6 years, in what has truly become a wide-open event.

The Blue Jays began their 11-game road trip, with a 5-0 win over the L.A. Angels. Brandon Morrow tossed a 3-hitter and struck out 8... and J.P. Arencibia, hit his 2nd home run of the season -- a 3-run shot in the 3rd.

The New York Yankees are suddenly without baseball's all-time saves leader, Mariano Rivera, who tore part of his right knee, while shagging balls near the outfield wall. The Yankees lost 4-3, at Kansas City. The injury could potentially end 42-year-old Rivera's career, who hinted during spring training, that this could be his final year in the majors.

The defending N.B.A. champions are on the verge of being swept in the opening round of the playoffs. Oklahoma City whipped Dallas 95-79, to take a 3-games-to-nothing lead. Miami is also on the verge of a sweep, with the Heat up 3-nothing, after beating New York 87-70. The Knicks were held to just 8 baskets in the 2nd half. Tonight: Altanta is in Boston... Philly hosts the Bulls... and the L.A. Lakers are in Denver.

 

The Stayner Hitmen Tyke team opened their season, with a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Barrie. Kaden Banks and Robbie Butwell both scored for Stayner, and Lachlan Craig made some big saves in goal to keep the game tied in the 3rd. Both teams meet for a rematch in Barrie, next Thursday.

 

The Georgian Triangle Spring Trout Derby wraps up at Noon tomorrow. Yesterday, the 1st salmon entry of the derby came from Brad Kingston at 8.88 pounds, and Scott Fryer had the big fish of the day, with a 6.78 pound rainbow. And, Will Hanna remains in 1st place overall, with the heaviest rainbow, at 11.4 pounds.
