For the forseeable future -- there will be no second dwelling units or "granny flats" in a single-detached dwelling in the Miramichi Shores subdivision in Saugeen Shores.

Council was unanimous in its decision on Monday night to deny a re-zoning application.

Doug Maas and Karen Fehr of 36 Collard Way, wanted the secondary dwelling for a relative.

However, Miramichi Shores subdivision spokesperson Robert Greason informed council that 24 of 28 homeowners were against the rezoning.

Greason says they had no problem with an addition being put on the house but not a separate dwelling that could one day become a rental unit in the subdivision.

He was happy council voted unanimously to deny the rezoning.

Mayor Mike Smith says council does not have enough guidance from senior levels of government to allow the dwelling in that specific location, however he suspects an Ontario Municipal Board hearing may be in the future.

Spokesperson for the applicants, Kristine Loft of Loft Land Use Planning, offered no comment on the decision, nor whether or not they may appeal to the OMB.
