Some changes on area roads and the new fire hall are on the agenda for tonight's Wasaga Beach council meeting.

Council will consider a General Government Committee recommendation to make an exception to the usual road naming rules and go to a public process to rename the current Highway 26 between Wasaga Beach and Collingwood.

The new name will be needed once the Highway 26 by-pass is completed and the current highway again becomes a municipal road.

Wasaga Beach will do a direct mailing to landowners along Highway 26 who will be directly affected by the name change.

Landowners will be asked to consider Champlain Road, Spirit Lake Road or Veteran Road.

Council will also decide whether to direct staff to work with Collingwood on a formal public notification process.

Collingwood council is also doing a direct mailing, but will give home owners the opportunity to come up with their suggestion if they don't like the other three.

One suggestion has been Blue Water Drive which is what that road used to be called.

Wasaga Beach council may also ask landowners on other roads affected by the by-pass about new names.

Ayling Reid Court could be the new name of the current Collingwood  Airport Road and Highway 26 from Mosley Street to the Wasaga/Clearview townline could be called Lyons Court.

At tonight's meeting, councillors will be asked to authorize the signing of a lease agreement for the new fire hall between the town and Wasaga Distribution.

The new fire hall will be on the utility's land on River Road West.

Council will also consider deeming the new fire hall as a municipal capital facility so it will be exempt from municipal, county and school board taxes.
