Library Sets Opening Date

Collingwood
by Phil Birchard

After months of delays, Collingwood's new library is just a few weeks away from an official opening.

Collingwood mayor Chris Carrier says the offiical opening will be in May, but the building will be open for business as of Tuesday, April 6th.

The old building will close its doors on March 19th at 8 PM and will be closed for two weeks to move items to the new facility.

The library encourages people to take out lots of books before then, adding that there won't be any late fees.

Carrier says the original opening date for the library was back in 2008, but there were many setbacks, including the terrible winter weather in 2009 which pushed construction way behind schedule.

He says they wanted the project to be done right, and that meant taking more time.
