Frontenacs Hammer Colts
Kingston scores 5 goals in the first period on their way to a 3-2 series lead.
The Kingston Frontenacs delivered a big beat down on the Barrie Colts in Game 5 of the OHL Eastern Conference Semifinal.
Gabriel Vilardi scored twice, part of a 5-goal first period, in a 7-1 Kingston win on Thursday night to go up 3-2 in the best-of-seven.
The Frontenacs were on the board 75 seconds into the game on a goal by Max Jones.
It was 2-0 for Kingston when Jason Willms answered for Barrie and trailed 2-1.
But Brett Neumann, Jason Roberston (1 goal, 1 assist), and Vilardi (his second on the night) would score before the end of the period breaking the game open for the Frontenacs.
Kai Edmonds (20 saves) replaced Leo Lazarev to start the second period (11 saves).
Sean Day and Matt Hotchkiss (1 goal, 1 assist) rounded out the scoring while Linus Nyman collected 3 assists.
Jeremy Helvig stopped 32 shots for the Frontenacs who can clinch the series with a win in Game 6 Friday night in Kingston.
Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
