Nothing Like a Georgian Bay Sunset!

Me at sunset!
People come from far and wide to our beautiful South Georgian Bay and something that draws them here in the summer is the famous Georgian Bay sunset. And there really is nothing like it. No matter where you are in the area in the summer around dusk, if you look up in the sky you can expect to be wowed. Whether it’s beautiful pinks, purples and oranges filling the blue sky, magnificent cloud formations, or just hints of pink across the skyline, it’s breathtaking, really.
I just thought that I should make a blog devoted to the loveliness that is Georgian Bay sunsets. Plus, I’d like to share with you some of my sunset pictures I’ve taken over the summer from various locations. If you’ve lived here for a while, you probably know the best spots to watch the sunset. But if you’re new or if you just want to try some new places, I’ll let you in on some of my personal favourite spots!
- Sunset Point in Collingwood is an obvious spot to watch sunset. You can enjoy a walk along the water with an ice cream in hand and watch the sun go down or take a seat on the rocks or even go for a sunset swim. (Bring water shoes.) But, watch out, because if you take your eyes off the sun for even a minute, it could already be down. It certainly does go down quickly so take in every moment!
- The Collingwood Harbour is another great area. You can walk along the trails there, even jump off the pier for a dip if you feel so inclined. You get a clear view of the sunset as well as the passing sailboats. Plus, there’s something about the obligatory wave to sailors going by that just completes the whole experience.
- Beach 1 is a perfect area where you can watch the sunset on a weekday evening, crowd-free, and then stick around for the endless sky full of stars!
I’d love to know more great spots to watch the famous Georgian Bay sunset, so feel free to email me at jmartin@bayshorebroadcasting.ca or through our Facebook and Twitter pages by following the links on www.977thebeach.ca.
